Recap 2021: Buying Habits
Earlier this year, I established 4 buying habits to follow this year: https://lilly-chan.medium.com/4-buying-habits-for-2021-1cca39e4b09. As 2021 is coming to a close, I wanted to check in to see how I did on each of these habit goals.
1. No plants
I’ve stuck to my goal and didn’t buy any new plants this year. I ended up moving in late 2021 so my new apartment gets a lot more sun. Also for my birthday, one of my friends got me two planters so hoping to fill the planters up in early 2022. I’m thinking about seeing if I can propagate some green onion since we tend to use them frequently for cooking. Otherwise, not planning to get more plants since I’m pretty happy with our current plant situation.
2. Fast food once a month
Definitely did not stick with this buying habit. At times, it’s been super convenient to grab fast food. It’s been a bit of ritual to go to our local fast food restaurant before we head to the airport if we have an evening or night flight. In general, I’m proud and happy of how we’ve incorporated more vegetables into our meals thanks to our weekly produce box. Our list of go to recipes has grown thanks to introducing different and new vegetables every week.
3. No shopping for clothes except for emergencies.
I ended up shopping more this year than in 2020 for multiple reasons. We are traveling more so needed some items and also wanted more variety of items for going out. With all of the purchases, they were very intentional, buying items I’ve talked about for months. For 2022, I want to continue being intentional when it comes to clothes shopping but also give myself flexibility. In high school, I loved dressing up every day as it was a fun way to express myself. I miss that fun feeling of coming up with different outfit combinations so I want to push myself to go out of my comfort zone more with fashion. My guideline when it comes to fashion shopping is if it’s on my wishlist for several months and I find a good deal, I can pull the trigger.
4. Only have a backlog for daily items.
I’m happy to say that I only have backups for daily items or cleaning products that I know we will go through. I’ve been buying backups when I’m almost out of something. For example, I’m nearing the end of my body wash and moisturizer so I ordered some backups. I want to continue practicing this in the future so I don’t end up with a bunch of expired products.
Overall I’m happy with my purchases this year as I was more intentional about whether I needed to get another item. I’ll be sharing my overall 2022 goals in another post so stay tuned!
